Innovative Engineering for Airports Operations

Schiphol Airport has various parties that direct the processes at the airport. The Airport Operations Centre enabled these parties to come together at one location to work together optimally. The project was designed and realised within a very short lead time, with the design developed in just five months. The project scope encompassed a feasibility study, final design, working drawings and implementation, with the project delivered as scheduled in December 2019.

The project was designed by a team consisting of BCN Architects, Deerns as installation consultant, RHDHV on construction and Peutz as the building physics consultant. The IT design was drawn up by Schiphol Telematics. Working drawings were carried out by Engie (on installations) and Heembouw (on construction).

Deerns Solutions

Deerns was responsible for engineering solutions, including mechanical, electrical, fire safety and control technology, while developing the users’ Programme of Requirements (PoR) ), responsibilities, and risks. Deerns ensured redundancy in power and climate systems, adapted designs to existing building constraints, and aligned with sustainability and owner-tenant needs.

Deerns facilitated a streamlined planning process by skipping the preliminary design phase, directly supporting the house contractor in moving from final design to working drawings, and addressing additional requirements from Schiphol, ensuring efficiency and functionality throughout.
