The Hague, 24 April 2025 – Deerns enabled ASML to offer its star talent with star treatment through smart design at its new De Run 1000 office complex and headquarters in Veldhoven, the Netherlands. Here’s where global high tech innovation begins with employee well-being
ASML commissioned this new office complex in Veldhoven as part of its broader growth strategy on its extensive high tech campus. ASML is a key player in chip manufacturing which many of us depend on for critical tasks at business and home. De Run 1000 consists of four building sections that converge in a square.which is the social heart of the design: a place where employees meet, collaborate and relax. The complex has approximately 4,000 workstations and a gross floor area of 47,869 m². An energy station, sprinkler pump room and a separate test room are also part of this new high tech hub.
Deerns was responsible for the technical design, building physics, BREEAM and WELL certification, Smart Building design, security and project management and supervision during construction. Various partners also involved in the project were: EGM architects, structural engineer Adviesbureau Tielemans, Croonwolter&dros for M&P installations, Mansveld for electrical installations, DVP for construction management and the structural contractor Hurks.
‘De Run 1000 is designed for the well-being of talented people at ASML who are working every day with high tech future in mind. e,’ says Richard Stabel, Project Manager at Deerns. ’Thanks to the open design plan and the use of daylight and smart building technology, it has become a comfortable and future-proof working environment.’
Campus expansion in response to global demand
ASML, the world leader in the production of advanced chip machines, is growing rapidly to meet global demand for digital applications and technological innovations, from smartphones to solutions for the energy transition to renewable power. This growth is visible and tangible in Veldhoven, The Netherlands, where the campus is constantly expanding. ASML is opening its doors to the future, with the opening of De Run 1000 which replaces its previous iconic office head quarters. ,
A sustainable working environment, according to the latest standards
De Run 1000 achieved high scores in terms of sustainability and well-being: BREEAM Excellent and WELL Platinum. During construction, the transition was made to a new assessment guideline, making it one of the first office buildings to be certified according to the latest BREEAM guideline (BREEAM-NL New Construction 2020 v1.0 – Excellent).
The design focused on energy efficiency, including the use of Photovoltaic (PV) panels and smart installations. To increase comfort, Deerns advised on building physics elements such as maximising daylight, sun protection and acoustics, ensuring a healthy and comfortable working environment.
Smart building technology enabled a positive user experience for the high performing talent at ASML. The smart building concept, developed in collaboration with Signify, allows employees to reserve workspaces in advance and automatically adjust them to their personal preferences. The system also helps to coordinate people flows on the office campus.
From vision to realisation
De Run 1000 demonstrates how ASML is developing a working environment that balances work and well-being. Deerns translated this vision into a technical designwhich led to a new icon for ASML – a smart and comfortable office complex, fully tailored to ASML’s growth ambitions and its unique talent.
De Run 1000 was officially opened in April 2025 by Christophe Fouquet, CEO of ASML.
